The Club Now
On 25 April 2018 the club became a 100% National Model Railroad Association (NMRA) Club. This allowed the club to get collection insurance on the modules and liability insurance for the clubs display events. This is a great step forward in removing the members from liability due to loss or injury.
The club started having financial issues after buying a trailer to move the modules. The officers voted to continue to work on the removal of liability and to become a tax exempt organization to allow the club to take in donations. At the same time, the officers voted to double the dues. This was to cause a number of members to leave the club or become associate members. The doubling of dues was reversed a few months later, and an assessment was levied instead to met the clubs' financial responsablities.
On 22 May 2019 the club submitted an application to the Georgia Secretary of State to become a Not-For-Profit Corporation. On 17 July 2019 the application was approved and as of the application date the Middle Georgia Modele Railroad Club became a Not-For-Profit Corporation. On 18 August 2021 the club submitted an application to the Interal Revenue Service, IRS, to become a 501(c)(3), Public Charity. On 24 November 2021 the IRS approved the application. The work started in 2004 to become a 501(c)(3) organization was finally realized.
With such a great team of truly dedicated model railroaders at the throttle, the future should be "as bright as a locomotive's headlight" for the Middle Georgia Model Railroad Club Incorporated.
